An Unfortunate Timely Reminder
Monday, 19 January 2015 06:43
The sad death of a conoeist on our stretch of the river serves as a timely remoinder to take all necessary precautions when training alone.
A coneist was drowned near Saltford weir on 17th January and three companions who also got into difficulty managed to get out. The drowned canoesit was believed to not be wearing a bouyancy aid.
If you are paddling, especially in the Winter and during high fast flowing water always wear a BA and make sure that you are able to both self rescue or assist in a rescue if needed. If you are unsure or dont know then dontgo out. also even if confident always let someone know where you are going and how long you will be. If you can take a mobile phone with you in a waterproof container.

Bristol Back in Racing
Sunday, 19 October 2014 15:36
bristol are back - our first competitive race for many years started so well but a broken steering arm prevented what would have been a great return for us. We started off at 45 second intervals - two boats in front of a total of a minute and a half to make up. By the first turn Temple Island we had achieved that and a great turn by Gary Corr was all that was needed to take centre stage for the upstream half of the race mid way into a great racing turn disaster struck as the steering arm broke leaving us with no steering. Gary valiantly tried to steer with his paddle but it wasn't possible. A quick reshuffle of the boat putting Rob Rooks and Ian Elliott at the back to help steer meant we could at least finish the course but we wouldn't be racing. We did keep pace with Thames most of the way back but we couldn't push it - such a shame. Never mind we will be back and 29 minutes will be an easy target for us to better next time out. The main thing is we are back, happy despite the breakage to be in black and white happy having fun. Thank you all for making Bristol feel welcome and saying how much we were missed - it means a lot to us!Page 1 of 26
